A UK asset manager was preparing for its next phase of growth, seeking to expand its investment capabilities, build an international distribution presence, and maintain exceptional client service. However, its existing operating model faced three key challenges: it could not scale efficiently to support an increasingly global client base, growth was too closely tied to headcount, resulting in a high cost to scale, and governance structures and key operating model processes required refreshment.
alpha approach
Alpha supported the client by delivering a current-state diagnostic, designing a new functional and scalable organizational structure, and developing a clear implementation roadmap. We worked with more than 25 senior leaders and conducted detailed analysis to assess the existing operating model and identify key challenge areas. In partnership with the ExCo, we defined 12 design principles to shape the future-state target operating model and align decision-making throughout the program. We then ran design workshops to develop a new functional structure with clearer ownership and accountability, followed by deep-dive assessments of the process and capability changes needed to support the new model. Finally, we produced a logically sequenced roadmap and communications approach to support mobilization towards the target state.
