This week Alpha will be holding our first assessment centre of the year for our graduate intake of September 2018.
Assessment centres at Alpha are not only an opportunity for you to showcase your talent but also a great way to learn more about Alpha and our culture. To make the most of the experience and give yourself the best possible chance, here are some top tips from our most recent graduates on how to make the most of your assessment centre:
1. Be yourself
One of the most important tips is to be yourself! At our assessment centres, we test your ability but also want to get to know you as a person – let your personality come through. We look for candidates who aren’t afraid to be themselves; if you’re trying to be someone you’re not because you think it’ll impress an interviewer, you won’t come across as well, and they won’t get a true idea of whether you’ll be a good fit for the company. Also, don’t be put off by other candidates: we review all applicants on their own ability.
2. Practice, practice, practice
Assessment centres can be stressful and are designed to be challenging. It’s important to prepare beforehand so that you are able to talk confidently about your skills, past experiences, and motivations for applying. You don’t need to prepare any specific content for our case study or group exercise, but it’s worth thinking about core skills like presenting, problem-solving, and data analysis. Feeling prepared will help you relieve nerves and perform to the best of your best ability.
3. It’s a two-way process
Interviews are not only a chance for us to get to know you, but also for you to learn more about Alpha, and what it’s like to work here. Take the opportunity whilst at our offices to talk to some of our team, and ask any questions that you might have about Alpha. After each assessment centre, we always invite applicants to stay and meet some of our team, where you can be inquisitive and see if you’d fit in with us.
For those who are attending one of our Assessment Centres this year, we look forward to meeting you, and wish you the best of luck!
